Local authorities will be responsible for delivering the funding to eligible businesses.

Who is eligible?

Hereditaments which on 11th March 2020 had a rateable value of less than £51,000 and would have been eligible for a discount under the business rates Expanded Retail Discount Scheme had that scheme been in force for that date.

Update: 25th March 2020

Today the Government has announced that some of the exclusions for this relief have been removed, so that retail, leisure, and hospitality properties that have closed as a result of the Covid-19 restriction measures will now be eligible for the relief.

This will ensure that estate agents, lettings agencies and bingo halls that are required to close will not pay any business rates next year.

Hereditaments with a rateable value over £51,000; those occupied for personal use (private stables, loose boxes, beach huts and moorings); car parks and parking spaces and those businesses which as of 11th March 2020 were in liquidation or dissolved will not be eligible.

Eligible recipients will receive one grant per hereditament.

Who will receive the funding?

The person who was the ratepayer on 11th March 2020 according to the billing authority's records.
